About Flumen

For a few summer days, the squares and parks of Jesi transform into a large open-air stage. Flumen - International Festival of Urban Theatre and New Circus brings jugglers, acrobats, equilibriists, and clowns from all over Europe to the historic centre of the Marche city, with free, itinerant performances suitable for all ages. A river of street arts flows through Jesi, blending cultures, languages, and wonder in a popular and family-friendly atmosphere.

A River of Circus Through the Streets of Jesi

The name is no coincidence: Flumen, meaning "river" in Latin, is exactly what the festival aims to be for Jesi. For four days at the end of June, urban theatre and new circus flow through the streets, squares, and parks of the historic centre, transforming the city into a widespread open-air stage. It is one of the most beloved events of the Jesi summer, capable of attracting families, curious onlookers, and street art enthusiasts from all over the Vallesina region.

What You Will See

Flumen is a festival dedicated to contemporary circus and street theatre, two languages that blend different disciplines and traditions. Between one square and another, you might encounter:

  • juggling and object manipulation;
  • acrobatics and aerial acts;
  • balancing and unicycling;
  • clowning and comedy for all ages;
  • participatory performances and workshops open to the public.

The format is typical of an itinerant festival: performances are repeated at different times, allowing spectators to create their own itinerary and follow multiple shows in the same evening, moving from one square to another.

A City That Becomes a Stage

The festival chooses the symbolic locations of Jesi, a city in the province of Ancona in the heart of the Marche region, the birthplace of Frederick II and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. In past editions, performances have enlivened the squares of the historic centre and the city's green spaces, such as the public gardens, Largo Salvador Allende, and Parco del Vallato, connected by pedestrian and cycle paths that invite you to experience the city at a human scale.

Who Organises Flumen

The festival is conceived and curated by L'Abile Teatro together with ATGTP - Associazione Teatro Giovani Teatro Pirata, organizations rooted in the Vallesina territory, with the support of JesiCultura and the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Jesi. The event is part of the rich programme of Jesi Estate (Jesi Summer), which accompanies the city with almost daily events from June to September.

An Event for Everyone

One of Flumen's distinctive features is its complete freeness: all performances are free entry and designed for a wide audience, from children to adults. It's the perfect opportunity to discover new circus live, in an informal and welcoming setting, and to experience the historic centre of Jesi in a different light, amidst wonder, laughter, and poetry.

Flumen โ€” edition 2026

Flumen returns to Jesi from June 23rd to 26th, 2026, as part of the Jesi Estate 2026 program. Four days of urban theatre and new circus transform the squares and parks of the historic centre into a widespread open-air stage, with free performances of juggling, acrobatics, clowning, and balancing for all ages.

The 2026 edition of Flumen takes place from June 23rd to 26th, confirmed within the official Jesi Estate 2026 program presented by the Municipality of Jesi. As tradition dictates, the festival will animate the streets, squares, and green spaces of the historic centre with street artists and contemporary circus companies from Italy and abroad.

The detailed program with the names of the companies, shows, and schedules for each square will be announced by the organizers (L'Abile Teatro and ATGTP) in the weeks preceding the event, on the official channels of the festival and the Municipality of Jesi. All performances, as always, will be free of charge.

Programme Flumen 2026

The detailed program for the 2026 edition (companies, shows, squares, and times) will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the festival, on the official Facebook page Flumen Festival and on the channels of the Municipality of Jesi.

Based on previous editions, the usual structure includes:

  • Free circus workshops open to the public in the afternoon;
  • Itinerant performances in gardens, parks, and pedestrian areas of the city;
  • Final evening with numerous performances spread across multiple squares in the historic centre, from 7:00 PM until late evening, with replays at different time slots to allow attendees to see multiple shows.
