Two kilometers of floral carpets in the historic center of Corridonia
In the heart of the province of Macerata, in the Marche region, the village of Corridonia celebrates the solemnity of Corpus Christi with one of the most evocative flower carpet events in the region. For an entire day, the historic center is adorned with colors: over two kilometers of streets, alleys, and squares are covered with carpets and actual artworks composed of flowers, petals, leaves, and plant materials. It is a collective, ephemeral, and precious creation, designed to welcome the passage of the religious procession.
The Flower Carpet is much more than an event: it is a ritual of popular participation that mobilizes volunteers, schools, and associations in the Municipality of Corridonia. From the early hours of the morning, the master flower carpet makers and the many volunteers of the Cittàviva association bring to life a true marathon of designs and colors. Even the youngest are protagonists: students from local schools, particularly from the Lanzi-Manzoni Institute, create large floral compositions that occupy entire sections of the squares.
Flower carpet making is an ancient Christian tradition, linked to the devotion for Corpus Christi, and in Corridonia it has become rooted over the years as a symbol of the village's identity. The floral carpets, destined to last only a few hours before the procession passes, tell the story of the encounter between ephemeral art and the sacred. Along the route, informational panels and QR codes allow visitors to discover the meaning and history of each artwork, transforming the walk into an open-air cultural experience.
The culmination of the day is the Corpus Christi procession, which in the evening winds its way along the flower carpet through the streets of the historic center. Promoted by the Parish of Saints Peter, Paul, and Donato, the procession concludes a day of collective work and shared celebration. The event is held under the patronage of the Province of Macerata and the Municipality of Corridonia.
The 2026 edition of the Flower Carpet of Corpus Christi of Corridonia, scheduled for Sunday, June 7, is titled "The ephemeral interprets the eternal." The historic center of the Macerata village transforms for an entire day into a large open-air art workshop, with over two kilometers of carpets and artworks made of flowers, leaves, and plant materials. This edition features a renewed graphic design, with informational panels and QR codes revealing the meaning and history of each artwork. The organization is handled by the Cittàviva association with the patronage of the Province of Macerata, the Municipality of Corridonia, and in collaboration with the Parish of Saints Peter, Paul, and Donato.
