The flower carpets that color the historic center of Castelraimondo for Corpus Domini
In the heart of the Macerata hinterland, the village of Castelraimondo (Province of Macerata, Marche) experiences one of its most anticipated moments each year: the Flower Carpet Festival of Corpus Domini. For the religious solemnity, the streets of the historic center are dressed in color thanks to dozens of floral paintings and carpets handmade by associations, groups, and volunteers from the area. Fresh flower petals, carnations, broom, rice, and various seeds create striking designs along Corso Italia, in Piazza Dante, and Piazza della Repubblica.
The flower carpet festival is by nature an ephemeral art: the carpets last only a few days, until the procession passes over them, erasing them. It is precisely this fragility that makes it precious. Behind each artwork are weeks of preparation, sketches, collection and selection of flowers, and long hours of night work to lay the petals before dawn on Sunday. Over twenty associations participate in Castelraimondo, a sign of a tradition deeply rooted in the life of the town.
The event is not just an artistic manifestation: it originates from the devotion to Corpus Domini and culminates in the solemn procession which, accompanied by the town's Brass Band, parades over the flower carpets. Around the religious core, a rich program of popular celebration unfolds with concerts, DJ sets, markets, entertainment for children, charity raffles, and exhibitions by local ceramists and painters. In recent years, the Flower Carpet Festival has also become an occasion to promote the territory, with tributes to illustrious figures from Castelraimondo, such as the geneticist Nazareno Strampelli, born in the nearby hamlet of Crispiero.
The Flower Carpet Festival of Corpus Domini is included in the official stops of the Grand Tour of the Marches, the circuit promoted by Tipicità and Anci Marche that showcases the region's excellences and traditions. For Castelraimondo, it is a recognition of the value of an event capable of attracting visitors and camper enthusiasts from all over the hinterland, transforming the village into a destination of colors and scents during the Corpus Domini weekend.
The XXXIV edition of the Flower Carpet Festival of Corpus Domini in Castelraimondo extends from May 29 to June 7, 2026, with the core program during the Corpus Domini weekend. The 2026 program includes 25 floral paintings created by 22 associations, using about 50,000 flowers, rice, and various seeds that cover Corso Italia and the town squares.
The edition pays tribute to Nazareno Strampelli, the geneticist and agronomist born in the hamlet of Crispiero, and confirms its status as an official stop on the Grand Tour of the Marches promoted by Tipicità and Anci Marche. Alongside floral art, the calendar features concerts, DJ sets, markets, workshops, and nature walks, culminating in the solemn procession on Sunday that crosses the colorful carpets.
Throughout the event: charity raffle and exhibition by ceramicists and painters from the Uteam group.
Castelraimondo is located in the hinterland of the Province of Macerata. By car: SS77 Val di Chienti highway (Castelraimondo-Camerino exit). By train: Castelraimondo station is on the Civitanova Marche–Fabriano line. The nearest airport is Ancona-Falconara (AOI).
Access to the flower carpets and events is free. Registration may be required for workshops and guided walks.
The carpets are at their most beautiful on the morning of Corpus Domini Sunday, before the procession. It's advisable to arrive early to admire them intact. Camper parking areas are available thanks to the collaboration of the local Camper Club.
