About Flat time is the right time

In Jesi, in the halls of Palazzo Bisaccioni, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi presents "Flat time is the right time", a major photographic exhibition with over one hundred works by 67 international artists from the Pier Luigi Gibelli Collection. The Jesi section is dedicated to the theme of the body and brings together masters such as Nobuyoshi Araki, Robert Doisneau, Luigi Ghirri, Ferdinando Scianna, and Joel-Peter Witkin. Curated by Roberto Maggiori and Luca Panaro, it is a journey into the relationship between photography, the body, and the image. Free admission.

An exceptional collection arrives in Jesi

In the heart of the historic center of Jesi, in the province of Ancona, the halls of Palazzo Bisaccioni host "Flat time is the right time", an ambitious exhibition project promoted by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi together with the Municipality of Senigallia. The exhibition brings together over one hundred photographic works by 67 international artists, all from the prestigious Pier Luigi Gibelli Collection, one of the most interesting private photography collections on the Italian scene.

The theme of the body

The exhibition path unfolds across two complementary venues in the Marche region: in Jesi, Palazzo Bisaccioni houses the section dedicated to the body, while Palazzo del Duca in Senigallia presents the sections on places, surfaces, and still lifes. The Jesi stop thus investigates the relationship between the photographic medium and the representation of the human body, between portraiture, intimacy, identity, and transfiguration.

The great names of photography

The list of artists on display is a true anthology of world photography. Among the names featured in the collection are:

  • Berenice Abbott, Walker Evans, Weegee, Edward Weston — the classics of American photography
  • Brassaï, Robert Doisneau, Sophie Calle — the great French school
  • Luigi Ghirri, Gabriele Basilico, Olivo Barbieri, Guido Guidi, Nino Migliori, Ferdinando Scianna, Paolo Ventura — the Italian masters
  • Nobuyoshi Araki, Kenro Izu, Masao Yamamoto — the Japanese perspectives
  • Roger Ballen, Gregory Crewdson, Todd Hido, Andres Serrano, Joel-Peter Witkin, Alec Soth, Erwin Olaf — international contemporary photography

The collector and the curators

The Pier Luigi Gibelli Collection was born in the early nineties from the passion of a Jesi-based plastic and aesthetic surgeon, guided by an aesthetic sensibility that also extends to his profession. Over the years, the collection has distinguished itself for its attention to image construction, unconventional viewpoints, and photography that goes beyond simple documentation. The exhibition is curated by Roberto Maggiori and Luca Panaro and is accompanied by the catalog Flat time is the right time. Bodies, places, and still lifes from the Pier Luigi Gibelli collection (Editrice Quinlan, 2025), with texts by Mauro Carbone and Antonello Frongia.

A stop on the Marche cultural circuit

Included in the rich exhibition program of Palazzo Bisaccioni, the museum venue of the Fondazione CRJ, the exhibition confirms Jesi as one of the most vibrant cultural hubs in the Marche region. Admission to the Jesi venue is free, reflecting the Foundation's commitment to making internationally significant photographic heritage accessible to all.
