Festival of the Angels (Easter Monday)

The 2025 edition of the Festival of the Angels took place on Easter Monday, April 21, in the center of Mongiuffi Melia (province of Messina). As per secular tradition, the statues of the Risen Christ and the Madonna went out in procession from their respective churches to meet at the Piano degli Angeli: here, the Virgin laid down her black mourning cloak to wear the white one, was crowned with flowers, and proclaimed Queen of Peace, while the Angels of Mary sang traditional songs.

The event was part of a deeply felt Holy Week: on April 12, the village hosted the third edition of the Maccheroni Festival, featuring pasta hand-rolled on iron rods according to ancient Sicilian tradition, local wine tastings, and, at Palazzo Corvaja, screenings dedicated to the village's Easter rites, including the Monday of the Angels.
