The traditional Easter festival of crescia and hard-boiled eggs in Montegiano di Mombaroccio
The Festa d'la Crescia sai Cucon is one of the most cherished events in the spring calendar of Montegiano, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Mombaroccio, in the hinterland of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region. The name itself, in the Marche dialect, tells the heart of the festival: the crescia sai cucon, meaning Easter crescia accompanied by hard-boiled eggs, two timeless symbols of the rural Easter table.
The absolute protagonist is the Easter crescia, a type of leavened savory cake enriched with cheese, typical of the Marche and Umbria regions, prepared entirely on-site by the village housewives with quality local ingredients. Alongside the crescia, stalls offer the unmissable hard-boiled eggs, local cured meats and cheeses, porchetta, traditional sweets, and other specialties of Marche peasant cuisine.
The festival is not just about gastronomy. The program has always included traditional games such as flower fishing and the prosciutto game, moments of live music and dancing, stands of local artisans and exhibitors. The nature walks among wild herbs and in the Bosco del Beato Sante are very popular, with visits to the Sanctuary and local farms, some dedicated to lavender cultivation, a true vocation of the Mombaroccio territory.
The event is organized by the Associazione culturale Montegiano C'รจ together with the Pro Loco Mombaroccio APS and the Municipality of Mombaroccio, with the patronage of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino and the Regional Council of Marche. Over the years, the event has established itself as an identity-defining appointment for the community, capable of attracting visitors from all over the province thanks to the authenticity of its cuisine and the familiar atmosphere of the village.
The Festa d'la Crescia sai Cucon is traditionally held during the Easter and spring period, often coinciding with the Liberation Day on April 25th, in the heart of Montegiano. Admission is free and the festival is designed for families and enthusiasts of genuine flavors and Marche popular traditions.
The Festa d'la Crescia sai Cucon 2026 returns to Montegiano, a hamlet of Mombaroccio (PU), during its usual Easter and spring period. The edition is confirmed by Pro Loco Mombaroccio APS and the Montegiano C'รจ Association. The detailed program, with definitive dates and times, will be announced at the beginning of spring 2026: as tradition dictates, tastings of Easter crescia and hard-boiled eggs, typical local products, popular games like flower fishing, live music, and nature walks in the Bosco del Beato Sante are expected.
