About Festival dell'Appennino

The Festival dell'Appennino stops in Tolentino, in the province of Macerata, with a day that combines nature, walking, and music. It starts with a 9 km circular hike in the green of the Abbadia di Fiastra Reserve, then reaches the evocative Castello della Rancia where an evening concert under the stars takes place. A free and inclusive event, created to tell the story of and regenerate the territories of the central Apennines affected by the 2016 earthquake.

The Festival dell'Appennino in Tolentino

The Festival dell'Appennino is a widespread traveling event that, from May to October, crosses dozens of villages in the central Apennines with a now recognizable format: during the day you walk, in the evening you listen to music. The Tolentino stage, in the heart of the province of Macerata and the Marche region, is one of the most anticipated events of the calendar, as it unites two symbolic places of the territory: the Abbadia di Fiastra Nature Reserve and the Castello della Rancia.

Walking and Listening

The formula is what has made the festival famous throughout Central Italy: a guided hike in the afternoon, designed to be accessible to everyone, followed by an evening concert in a monumental setting. In Tolentino, the walk winds through the woods and scenic spots of the Abbadia di Fiastra, one of the most beloved natural areas in the Marche, while the evening comes alive at the Castello della Rancia, a fifteenth-century fortress also famous for the battle of 1815.

A Festival Born After the Earthquake

The Festival dell'Appennino has a mission that goes beyond entertainment: it is a tool for territorial regeneration for the Apennine areas affected by the 2016 earthquake. The edition touches dozens of municipalities spread across Marche, Abruzzo, Lazio, and Umbria, with the aim of bringing people, attention, and life back to the villages wounded by the earthquake. Walking in these places thus becomes a small gesture of support for their rebirth.

Why It's Worth It

  • Free hike suitable for everyone, immersed in the nature of Abbadia di Fiastra
  • Evening concert in the evocative setting of Castello della Rancia
  • Refreshment area with food trucks and local specialties
  • An event that combines gentle sport, culture, and solidarity towards the earthquake-affected territories

Participation is free, but booking is mandatory through the official festival website: an important detail for organizing the hike and services.
