Hike in the Gola di Jana and concert in the village of murals
The Festival dell'Appennino - inclusive of nature is a widespread event that, from May to October, enlivens the villages of the central Apennines affected by the 2016 earthquake. Among its many stops is that of Braccano, a small and poetic hamlet in the Municipality of Matelica, in the Province of Macerata, in the heart of the Marche region. Known as the "village of murals," Braccano is a village where the walls of the houses tell stories through dozens of paintings created by artists and students from the Academy of Fine Arts.
The format of the stage combines gentle hiking with moments of culture and entertainment. The naturalistic heart is the hike in the Gola di Jana, a loop trail immersed in a cool and shady environment, accessible and suitable for everyone. It is an itinerary of an "all-inclusive hiking" nature, designed to help even those who are not expert hikers discover a hidden and fascinating corner of the Marche hills.
Upon returning, participants can freely visit the village and its famous murals, before getting involved in the evening part, made up of cultural meetings and live music in a convivial atmosphere also enlivened by refreshment points managed by local associations.
The Festival dell'Appennino is not a single event, but a network of appointments involving about thirty municipalities spread across Marche, Umbria, Lazio, and Abruzzo, the four regions of the central Apennines affected by the earthquake. The goal is to promote slow, experiential, and accessible tourism, capable of enhancing small villages, historic paths, and mountain landscapes. The Braccano stage is part of this large project of enhancement and rebirth, bringing a curious audience, attentive to nature and local traditions, to a hamlet of Matelica.
The stage in Braccano di Matelica of the Festival dell'Appennino 2026 (17th edition) offered a full day of nature, history, and music, with free admission and mandatory registration. The hike in the Gola di Jana guided participants along a cool and shady loop trail, before giving way to the discovery of the village of murals and the evening part of talks and concert.
Throughout the day, refreshment stands organized by the Braccano Festival Committee Association offering local appetizers, sandwiches, fries, and drinks, and the participation of local businesses with wines and craft beers.
The stage takes place in Braccano, a hamlet of the Municipality of Matelica (Province of Macerata, Marche). The meeting point is in the center of the village.
