The patron saint of Manarola between procession, fireworks, and ingenuity market
In Manarola, one of the Cinque Terre and a hamlet of the municipality of Riomaggiore in the province of La Spezia, the Festa Patronale di San Lorenzo (Patron Saint Festival of San Lorenzo) is celebrated on August 10th, on the night of San Lorenzo. It is the most cherished event in the village, combining religious devotion with the festive spirit of summer.
The central moment is the evening procession with the saint's effigy, which winds through the colorful alleys of the village overlooking the sea. This is followed by fireworks that illuminate the sky and the coast, in a setting made unique by the terraced vineyards and tower houses cascading down to the small harbor.
During the festival days, Piazza Capellini hosts the ingenuity market, featuring local crafts and creativity. The Cinque Terre National Park also offers dedicated initiatives, such as a sunset tour on the occasion of the festival, to experience the magic of Manarola as the sun goes down.
For 2026, the Festa di San Lorenzo returns to Manarola on August 10th. In the evening, the procession with the saint's effigy winds through the village, followed by fireworks over the sea; the ingenuity market enlivens Piazza Capellini on August 10th and 11th. The Cinque Terre National Park offers a dedicated sunset tour, departing from Riomaggiore station. The detailed timetable will be confirmed closer to the event.
By train: Manarola station on the Genoa-La Spezia line, served by the Cinque Terre Express. By car, access to the villages is highly restricted: train or boat is recommended.
Celebrations and shows are free admission.
