Fireworks over the sea, procession and tradition in the village of the Spezia Riviera
In Deiva Marina, a small municipality nestled between the hills and the sea in the province of La Spezia, Ferragosto is not just the midsummer festival: it is the commemoration of the village's patron saint, Our Lady of the Assumption, to whom the ancient parish church is dedicated. For two days, the town experiences its most intense moment, as residents, holidaymakers, and tourists fill the seafront and narrow streets.
On the evening of August 14th, the sky above the gulf lights up with the fireworks display over the sea, a traditional preview of the festivities, followed by entertainment and music on the beach organized by the Pro Loco. August 15th is dedicated to the solemn religious celebrations of the Assumption, with the evocative evening procession lit by the torches of the faithful accompanying the effigy of the Madonna.
The spiritual heart of the festival is the millennial Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Piani, in the Piani locality, home to a famous marble epigraph that has been the subject of important historical studies. During the Ferragosto period, the sanctuary remains open to allow for prayer and visits to its heritage. The walk to the sanctuary, immersed in the green hinterland of Deiva, is an integral part of the experience.
The Feast of the Assumption perfectly tells the identity of this corner of Liguria: a seaside village that has not forgotten its agricultural and religious roots. Deiva Marina's Ferragosto is the ideal opportunity to discover the town, its beaches, and the hospitality of a community that has renewed this tradition for generations in the heart of the Spezia Riviera.
For August 14-15, 2026, Deiva Marina prepares to experience its most heartfelt Ferragosto. On the evening of August 14th, the gulf will be the backdrop for the fireworks display over the sea, followed by music and entertainment on the seafront. August 15th, the day of the Assumption, is dedicated to religious celebrations with the evening procession by torchlight and the opening of the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Piani.
The detailed program with times and related initiatives will be published by the Municipality and the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the festival.
Detailed timetable to be confirmed.
Deiva Marina is located on the Genoa-La Spezia railway line, with its own station connected to the center and beaches by a shuttle. By car, take the Deiva Marina exit from the A12 motorway. On festival days, it is advisable to park in areas outside the center due to the crowds.
All events are free to enter. The detailed program for the edition is usually published in the weeks preceding the event by the Municipality and the Pro Loco.
