Luvinate and its patrons

The Patron Saint Festival of Saints Hippolytus and Cassian is the heart of the community life of Luvinate, a small town nestled at the foot of Monte Campo dei Fiori, in the province of Varese. The town is dedicated to Saints Hippolytus and Cassian, two martyrs of the early Church, celebrated on August 13th.

The parish church

The religious heart of the festival is the Church of Saints Hippolytus and Cassian, a late 18th-century building expanded in the 19th century, which holds the town's devotion to its protectors. It is here that the most solemn liturgical moments of the celebration are concentrated.

The August sagra

A traditional sagra (traditional festival) develops around the religious festival, usually held on the second or third Sunday of August. The event is opened by an evocative ceremony, generally in the presence of the Provost of Varese, who celebrates a solemn Mass before the congregation. Convivial and community events that liven up the village are held alongside the religious moments.

The Festival of Saints Hippolytus and Cassian is part of the tradition of patron saint festivals in the Varese area, where each town celebrates its own saints with rites and community gatherings.
