Festa di San Lorenzo di Cavargna

In 2025, the patronal festival of San Lorenzo confirmed one of the most evocative traditions of Val Cavargna, in the Province of Como. On August 10th, during the concelebrated Mass in the parish church, the rite of the 'Barba di San Lorenzo' was renewed: the cotton wool casing hung from the ceiling was ignited, burning rapidly to symbolise the martyrdom of the saint.

A ritual act that the community of the alpine village preserves and passes down with pride, a living testament to the popular religiosity of this border valley.
