San Leonardo is the patron saint of Valle Salimbene, a small municipality in the province of Pavia, situated in a picturesque location at the confluence of the Ticino and Po rivers, near the city of Pavia. The patronal festival is traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday of October and is one of the most cherished events by the community.

An Ancient Devotion

The municipality is divided into three hamlets—Belvedere, Motta San Damiano, and San Leonardo—the latter being the largest, crossed by the Via Regina, an ancient stretch of the Via Francigena shared with the municipality of Linarolo. The heart of the festival is the parish church of San Leonardo di Limoges, a building of historical and religious significance to which the faithful are particularly devoted. The Sunday closest to the saint's feast day is marked by a heartfelt procession.
