The national gathering of fire rituals that opens Agnone's "month of fire"
The Festa dei Fuochi Rituali in Agnone, in the province of Isernia, is an event that brings together dozens of municipalities and associations from several Italian regions in the historic centre, each carrying its own fire-related tradition. It is the event that opens the renowned Agnone "month of fire," which then culminates in the grand 'Ndocciata and the 'Ndocciata della Tradizione.
The festival showcases the extraordinary variety of Italian fire rituals: from the Abruzzese farchie and faugni to the Molise ndocce and faglie, from the fucarelle to the Puglian zjarrett of Arbรซreshรซ tradition, to the San Giuseppe torch procession and the fires of Tuscany. Very tall torches, wooden structures, and flames of all shapes parade and burn in the heart of Agnone, all rooted in the pre-Christian practices of the winter solstice.
Organized by the Municipality of Agnone along with the Associazione La 'Ndocciata and Pro Loco, the festival marks the beginning of the December calendar that makes this village in Alto Molise the Italian capital of fire rituals. A unique opportunity to admire in one place the diverse souls of a millennia-old tradition that spans central-southern Italy.
The 2026 edition of the Festa dei Fuochi Rituali opens Agnone's "month of fire" on the evening of December 6th, in the historic centre. As tradition dictates, the gathering brings together municipalities and associations from various Italian regions, each with its own fire ritual: farchie, ndocce, faugni, fucarelle, and many other ancestral traditions. The event, organized by the Municipality of Agnone with the Associazione La 'Ndocciata and Pro Loco, precedes the grand 'Ndocciata and the 'Ndocciata della Tradizione on December 24th.
The detailed program with the list of participating groups will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
