Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Casacanditella was celebrated on August 14th and 15th, 2025, confirming the most cherished event of the Chieti village. The central moment, on Ferragosto, followed the traditional program: Solemn Holy Mass at 10:30 AM in the church of San Nicola, procession with the statue of the Virgin at 12:00 PM accompanied by hymns and a brass band, a community lunch with traditional Abruzzese dishes at 1:30 PM, recreational activities and games for children at 5:00 PM, a musical show in the square at 9:00 PM, and a closing fireworks display at 11:00 PM. The heart of the festival, as per centuries-old tradition, were the votive floats decorated with bay leaves, ribbons, and cereals, and the verginelle dressed in white with wheat basins on their heads. Admission was free and open to all.
