Feast of the Assumption - Macchina dell'Assunta

The 2025 edition marked an important milestone: the twentieth edition of the Transport of the Assumption, just over twenty years after the birth of the tradition in 2004. On Thursday, August 14th, at 7:00 PM, the statue of the Madonna was hoisted onto the Macchina in Piazza Indipendenza; after the evening mass and the First Vespers of the Assumption presided over by Bishop Gerardo Antonazzo, at 9:00 PM, with public lighting turned off, the column began its journey through the streets of the center in a cloud of light.

The beating heart of the evening was the 85 Portatori of the Sodalizio, blessed in the church of Santa Restituta with the ritual of blue roses placed at the base of the structure. A particularly touching moment was the parade of 25 children with a miniature Macchina, a symbol of the continuity of the tradition between generations. On August 15th, the solemnity of Maria SS.ma Assunta continued with masses in the co-cathedral, while Marian festivities and those of Saint Dominic the Abbot accompanied the city until August 22nd.
