Edition 2025 — Saint Sebastian

In 2025, the hamlet of Melia once again honored its patron saint, Saint Sebastian, with the customary rituals, including the preparatory novena, the lighting of the Pagghiaru, the sausage festival, and the distribution of the blessed arrow-shaped bread. The festival, celebrated around January 20th, drew the local community and those who, having emigrated or living elsewhere, return to the village every year to participate in the procession.

2025 Edition

The 2025 Feast of Saint Sebastian took place around the traditional date of January 20th, preceded by the novena in the Mother Church of San Nicolò di Bari, in Melia, a hamlet of Mongiuffi Melia (Messina). As is customary, on the eve of the feast, the square hosted the lighting of the Pagghiaru and the sausage festival, a moment of conviviality for the entire community.

The Patron Saint's Day featured the singing of the Office at dawn, Holy Mass, the procession of the statue through the village streets, and the distribution in the square of the arrows of Saint Sebastian, the characteristic arrow-shaped breads that commemorate the Saint's martyrdom. A day that confirmed, once again, the deep devotion of the people of Melia to their protector.
