Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel

2025 Edition

The 2025 Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel in Canicattini Bagni (Syracuse) was celebrated on Monday, September 29, 2025, during the Holy Year of Hope. The festivities began on Sunday, September 21, with the translation of the statue, followed by the preparatory triduum from September 25-27 and the octave until October 6.

The patronal day opened at 7:30 AM with the firing of 21 cannon shots and festive bell ringing. After the 8:30 AM Mass and the procession of authorities from the Municipal Palace with the offering of the votive candle, the Solemn Mass was held at 10:30 AM. At noon, the triumphant "Sciuta" of the statue launched the first procession, which was also broadcast live on social media. In the afternoon, the Municipal Villa was named after Luca Scatà. In the evening, after the Mass presided over by the Archbishop of Syracuse, Francesco Lomanto, the second procession crossed the city, followed by a concert by the group "Radici d'Autore" and a midnight fireworks display. The city was decorated with illuminations, celestial drapes, and enlivened by a historical pageant, games between the eight districts, the town band, and the inter-parish choir.
