The feast of Spinea's patron saint, featuring a solemn mass, choir concerts, and a funfair.
Every March 9th, Spinea, in the province of Venice, celebrates its patron saint Saint Francesca Romana, protector of motorists and motorcyclists. The occasion is one of the most cherished events by the Spinea community and revolves around the Church of Saints Vito and Compagni Martiri, which houses a valuable painting dedicated to the saint, created by Odoardo Fialetti in the early 17th century.
The heart of the day is the solemn mass, led by the parish choir, followed in the evening by a concert by the town choirs โ from the youth choir to the La Gerla choir, from La Spineta to the parish choir โ filling the parish church with music. The feast involves the parish of Saints Vito and Modesto along with the Municipality of Spinea.
Alongside the religious celebration, the patron saint's feast brings the traditional funfair to the town, an event eagerly awaited especially by the younger ones, along with other scattered initiatives. It is a popular festival that, despite its simplicity, tells the story of Spinea's identity and the community's connection to its history and traditions.
The devotion to Saint Francesca Romana connects Spinea to Rome, of which the saint is also a patron. In Spinea, March 9th is also a civil holiday, with the closure of some municipal offices and services in honor of the city's protector.
