About Feast of Saint Felician

The Feast of Saint Felician is the patronal feast of Foligno, dedicated to the bishop and martyr of the 3rd century, patron saint of the city and the diocese. Every January 24th, the community of Foligno gathers around its saint with a solemn pontifical Mass in the Cathedral of Saint Felician and a procession that crosses the historic center, carrying the silver effigy of the patron saint. It is one of the most heartfelt religious and civil events of the year, intertwining faith, civic identity, and centuries-old tradition in the heart of Umbria.

The Patron Saint of Foligno

Saint Felician, bishop and martyr of the 3rd century, is the patron saint of the city and the Diocese of Foligno (Province of Perugia). His feast day, celebrated on January 24th, is one of the most important moments of the year for the community of Foligno, capable of filling the Cathedral of Saint Felician well beyond expectations, where the silver and gold effigy of the saint is kept at the high altar.

Pontifical Mass and Procession

The heart of the feast is the solemn pontifical Mass in the morning, followed in the afternoon by the procession that crosses the historic center, carrying the reliquary bust of the patron saint in a pageant. The day concludes with the evening Mass of Thanksgiving, while the following day a second solemn Mass and the awarding of the "Prize of Goodness" are held.

A Feast of Faith and City

Civil and military authorities, diocesan clergy, and faithful participate in the celebration, accompanied by the singing of the Schola Cantorum of Santa Cecilia. The Feast of Saint Felician thus unites the religious and civic dimensions, renewing each year the deep bond between Foligno and its protector saint.
