Edition 2025 — Saint Anthony the Abbot in Fontecchio

In 2025, Fontecchio once again celebrated the Feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot on January 17th, upholding a recurring tradition in the village: morning house-to-house singing, afternoon Holy Mass, and the great bonfire in Piazza del Popolo with music and songs. The day concluded with a community dinner around the fire, prepared by the villagers in a ritual that combines devotion, solstice fire, and conviviality.

The Feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot in Fontecchio is an annual event that is renewed every January 17th in the medieval village of the Aterno Valley, in the province of L'Aquila. In the previous edition, the village gathered around the great bonfire in Piazza del Popolo, preceded by the traditional singing quest of the local women and Holy Mass. The fire ritual, dedicated to the saint who protects animals, concluded with the traditional community dinner, a testament to a festival deeply rooted in the popular and religious identity of the Sirente Velino Park area.
