Feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot (Blessing of the Animals)

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, the community of Alcara li Fusi gathered to celebrate Saint Anthony the Abbot, the patron saint of animals. On the parvis of the Parish Church of Maria SS. Assunta, after Holy Mass, the traditional blessing of the animals took place, imparted by the new parish priest, Father Maurizio.

Numerous animals were present — horses, sheep, cows, birds, rabbits, cats, and dogs — accompanied by their owners, both young and old. The event, organized for several years by the Cavalieri del Calanna Association, confirmed the strong bond between the Nebrodi community and their animals, conveying a message of respect and protection to the younger generations.
