Feast of Maria SS. della Catena

In 2025, the Feast of Maria SS. della Catena in Mongiuffi Melia (Messina) was celebrated around the first Sunday of September, renewing a tradition deeply rooted in the community of the Peloritani Mountains. In the preceding days, devotees undertook the characteristic pilgrimages on foot, even at night and barefoot, towards the Sanctuary of the Catena in the Fanaca district. The celebrations included numerous masses, the procession around the Sanctuary, and the solemn return of the statue to the Mother Church, with the statue carried on shoulders through the streets of the town amidst hymns and lights. Alongside the religious services, there was no shortage of brass bands, market stalls, dancing, and fireworks, crowning a festival that unites faith, tradition, and moments of community.
