Contemporary theatre review at the Valeria Moriconi Theatre Studio in Jesi
In the intimate and evocative Valeria Moriconi Theatre Studio in Jesi, in the province of Ancona, Fair Play comes to life, the review dedicated to contemporary theatre that each year offers a program of four shows between late winter and spring. An agile but curated proposal, designed to complement the broader Drama Season of the Pergolesi Theatre with more experimental, intimate titles closer to today's scenic research.
The review is promoted by the Municipality of Jesi together with Teatro Giovani Teatro Pirata and the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation, with the contribution of the Marche Region and the Ministry of Culture. It is precisely this network of local entities that guarantees a careful selection, mixing theatre companies from the Marche region and productions from all over Italy.
The common thread of Fair Play is theatre that engages with the present: authorial dramaturgy, song-theatre, ironic reinterpretations of classics, and brand-new productions. From texts that rewrite Alfred Jarry or Oscar Wilde to works that tell the story of Generation Z or are inspired by Antonio Gramsci's prison letters, each evening is an invitation to look at the world from a different angle.
The theatre is named after Valeria Moriconi, a great actress from Jesi, one of the most beloved of the Italian 20th century. The space, located at Via Mazzoleni, offers an intimate and ideal dimension for research theatre, where the proximity between stage and audience makes every performance a direct and engaging experience.
Jesi is one of the cultural capitals of the Marche region: the birthplace of Frederick II and Giovan Battista Pergolesi, it boasts a strong theatrical and musical tradition. Fair Play fits into this context as a precious piece, capable of bringing the newest languages of the national scene to the city at accessible prices.
The second edition of Fair Play took place at the Valeria Moriconi Theatre Studio in Jesi from January 30 to April 1, 2026, with four contemporary theatre events. A program that alternated reinterpretations of classics, reflections on current events, and new productions, confirming the review as a space for research within Jesi's theatrical life. Promoted by the Municipality of Jesi with Teatro Giovani Teatro Pirata and the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation, the edition offered low-priced tickets and a dedicated pass to follow the entire program.
