About FAI Spring Days

Twice a year, the FAI invites you to rediscover lesser-known Italy: with the FAI Spring Days, the Portogruaro Delegation opens normally inaccessible sites in Eastern Veneto to the public. Among 18th-century villas, churches, and ancient paper mills, visits are guided by Apprentice Ciceros, students from the area who share the history and art of the open sites. A weekend to look with new eyes at the heritage of the "city of the Lemene" and its surroundings.

The FAI Spring Days

The FAI Spring Days are the great spring celebration of the FAI โ€“ Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano, which every year opens hundreds of extraordinary and often inaccessible places to the public throughout Italy. In Eastern Veneto, the FAI Delegation of Portogruaro (Province of Venice) curates the opening of local sites, telling their history and artistic value.

The sites of the Portogruaro area

Among the destinations offered by the delegation, the village of Alvisopoli stands out, a rare example of an ideal city from the Enlightenment era commissioned by the nobleman Alvise Mocenigo: Villa Mocenigo, designed by architect Balestra as the center of a self-sufficient rural complex, and the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga, with its neoclassical facade influenced by Baroque elements. The openings may also include other sites in the area, such as the ancient paper mill of Villanova della Cartera.

The Apprentice Ciceros

The heart of the experience are the Apprentice Ciceros, high school students from the areaโ€”including the "XXV Aprile" High School in Portogruaroโ€”who, after a training course, accompany visitors on guided tours. An initiative that combines the enhancement of heritage with the cultural growth of young people.

A celebration of heritage

Promoted by the FAI with the contribution of the delegation's volunteers, the FAI Spring Days in Portogruaro are an invitation to rediscover the hidden richness of Eastern Veneto, among villas, churches, and places of memory that tell the centuries of history of the "city of the Lemene" and its territory.

FAI Spring Days โ€” edition 2026
