The FAI opens the hidden places of the Portogruaro area among villas, churches, and heritage sites
The FAI Spring Days are the great spring celebration of the FAI โ Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano, which every year opens hundreds of extraordinary and often inaccessible places to the public throughout Italy. In Eastern Veneto, the FAI Delegation of Portogruaro (Province of Venice) curates the opening of local sites, telling their history and artistic value.
Among the destinations offered by the delegation, the village of Alvisopoli stands out, a rare example of an ideal city from the Enlightenment era commissioned by the nobleman Alvise Mocenigo: Villa Mocenigo, designed by architect Balestra as the center of a self-sufficient rural complex, and the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga, with its neoclassical facade influenced by Baroque elements. The openings may also include other sites in the area, such as the ancient paper mill of Villanova della Cartera.
The heart of the experience are the Apprentice Ciceros, high school students from the areaโincluding the "XXV Aprile" High School in Portogruaroโwho, after a training course, accompany visitors on guided tours. An initiative that combines the enhancement of heritage with the cultural growth of young people.
Promoted by the FAI with the contribution of the delegation's volunteers, the FAI Spring Days in Portogruaro are an invitation to rediscover the hidden richness of Eastern Veneto, among villas, churches, and places of memory that tell the centuries of history of the "city of the Lemene" and its territory.
The 2026 edition of the FAI Spring Days, the thirty-fourth, was held on the weekend of March 21 and 22, 2026. The FAI Delegation of Portogruaro opened to the public, particularly on Sunday, March 22, the 18th-century village of Alvisopoli.
The visits included Villa Mocenigo and the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga, guided by the Apprentice Ciceros from the "XXV Aprile" High School of Portogruaro, as well as other sites in the area such as the paper mill of Villanova della Cartera.
