About FAI Caino

For the FAI Spring Days, Caino opens the doors to its most cherished treasures. In the heart of Valle Trompia, in the province of Brescia, this small municipality tells its story through the Archpriestal Church of San Zenone with its 18th-century pictorial cycle, the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Fontane, the votive Church of San Rocco, and the Small Ethnographic Museum of La Röda. Guiding you are the students of IIS C. Beretta, young, well-prepared, and passionate guides who accompany visitors on a journey through art, popular faith, and peasant memory.

Caino, protagonist of the FAI Days

For a weekend, Caino, a small municipality in the Valle Trompia in the province of Brescia, becomes the heart of the FAI Spring Days, the major event that annually opens hundreds of art and nature sites to the public throughout Italy. Here, extraordinary openings tell the story of a territory rooted in devotion, tradition, and valley identity, far from the most crowded tourist circuits.

Places you can visit

The itinerary revolves around four main stops, all within walking distance in the town center:

  • Archpriestal Church of San Zenone Vescovo — Caino's main historical and artistic building, featuring a rich 18th-century pictorial cycle;
  • Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Fontane — a place of devotion born from an ancient apparition, set in a highly evocative context;
  • Church of San Rocco — a votive church, a testament to popular faith following the plague of the 17th century;
  • Small Ethnographic Museum of the "La Röda" association — a collection housing over 1,200 objects from daily life in the 20th century, reflecting the peasant and artisan civilization of the valley.

Young Guides

The distinctive feature of Caino's opening is the student guides: the young people from IIS C. Beretta participate in the "Fai il Cicerone" (Be a Guide) project and, after dedicated training, accompany visitors, particularly illustrating the Church of San Zenone. This is an opportunity that intertwines heritage preservation and the growth of local youth.

How the visit works

Visits are by free contribution: each visitor can support the FAI with a donation of their choice. FAI members enjoy priority access in case of large crowds. It's a concrete way to participate in the Foundation's mission, which is dedicated to the care and enhancement of Italy's historical and landscape heritage.

FAI Caino — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the FAI Spring Days shines a spotlight on Caino, in Valle Trompia. On the weekend of March 21 and 22, the Church of San Zenone, the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Fontane, the Church of San Rocco, and the La Röda ethnographic museum will open, with guided tours led by student guides from IIS C. Beretta.

For the 2026 edition of the FAI Spring Days, Caino opens four symbolic sites of its heritage. The openings take place on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, with the involvement of students from IIS C. Beretta acting as young guides. The event is part of the broader FAI program in the Brescia area, which on the same weekend offers extraordinary openings in the city, Garda, Franciacorta, Valcamonica, and Valle Trompia.
