The major summer festival in Zafferana Etnea at the Falcone and Borsellino Amphitheatre
Etna in Scena is the grand summer festival organised by the Municipality of Zafferana Etnea, a town nestled on the eastern slopes of the volcano in the province of Catania, Sicily. For over twenty years, the event has enlivened the warm months with a rich programme spanning major concerts, theatre, cabaret, symphonic music, and international acts. It has become one of the most anticipated cultural fixtures of the Sicilian summer, attracting audiences from across the island and the Etnean province.
The heart of the festival is the Falcone and Borsellino Municipal Amphitheatre, named after the two magistrates who became symbols of the fight against the Mafia. Immersed in greenery on the slopes of Mount Etna, this open-air venue offers a stunning natural backdrop: the stage stands against the silhouette of the volcano and the chestnut forests surrounding Zafferana, enjoying the cool climate typical of the Etnean mountains. The venue hosts performances every evening, usually starting at 9:00 PM.
The programme of Etna in Scena is intentionally diverse: alongside concerts by major Italian music stars, there are theatrical performances, cabaret nights, tributes to legendary songwriters, symphonic concerts, and international shows. The festival also celebrates Sicilian theatre and beloved local artists, alternating between ticketed events and free cultural, literary, and traditional gatherings.
For Zafferana Etnea, already famous for its Mushroom Festival and its tradition of honey and Etnean products, Etna in Scena represents the highlight of the summer. The event draws thousands of spectators and helps establish this Etnean town as one of the cultural capitals of the province of Catania during the summer season. Tickets for concerts and shows are available through major online booking platforms.
The 2026 programme opens on 29 June with Francesco De Carlo's show Limbo and continues throughout the summer until 5 September. Among the most anticipated events are the K-POP Dream International Tribute Show (25-26 July) and a long series of concerts in August.
The festival concludes in September with the tribute show Pink Floyd The Story (5 September). All performances begin at 9:00 PM at the Falcone and Borsellino Amphitheatre in Zafferana Etnea.
Zafferana Etnea can be reached by car from Catania (approx. 25 km) by taking the SP4 road towards Mount Etna. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa. The Falcone and Borsellino Amphitheatre is located on Via della Montagna.
Many performances require tickets, which can be purchased via major online booking platforms (such as TicketOne). Some cultural events are free of charge. We recommend checking the official programme of the Municipality of Zafferana Etnea for updated dates and prices.
Performances are held outdoors in the evening in a mountain area: it is advisable to bring a warm layer, even in the height of summer.
