Carpets of petals and ephemeral art in the Piceno village for Corpus Domini
The Ephemeral Art Flower Festival of Corpus Domini is one of the most heartfelt and evocative events in Montefiore dell'Aso, a village in the province of Ascoli Piceno, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, in the Marche region. On the occasion of the Corpus Domini solemnity, the streets and squares of the historic center are transformed into a large open-air gallery, where thousands of petals, flowers, and natural materials come to life in ephemeral art carpets of great chromatic impact.
The creation of the floral artworks begins at night and is completed at dawn on Sunday: the flower-painters work for hours, bent over the cobblestones, creating sacred images and scenes inspired by the theme chosen for the edition. The result is a floral path that winds through the alleys of the village, destined to last only a few hours, until the passage of the Corpus Domini procession which crosses the carpets, blessing them. It is precisely this transience that makes the event an authentic example of ephemeral art, a gift offered to the community and to devotion.
The Montefiore dell'Aso Flower Festival attracts delegations of flower-painters from various Italian regions each year, including Sicily, Lazio, Abruzzo, and Tuscany, as well as international groups. Alongside the adult masters, there is also the Children's Flower Festival, dedicated to the younger generation, who interpret a theme reserved for them. The day is enriched by musical performances, dance exhibitions, flag-wavers, art exhibitions, vintage car displays, an artisan market, and food stalls offering the flavors of the Piceno territory.
The festival is also the ideal opportunity to visit the artistic heritage of Montefiore dell'Aso: the Polo Museale di San Francesco, with the famous Polyptych by Carlo Crivelli, the Collegiate Church of Santa Lucia, and the Clock Museum. The event is organized by the Associazione Infiorata di Montefiore dell'Aso with the support of the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Montefiore dell'Aso, and admission is free.
The 2026 edition of the Montefiore dell'Aso Flower Festival celebrates the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi with the theme 'In the footsteps of Saint Francis... we find Christ poor, chaste, and obedient'. Delegations of flower-painters from Sicily, Lazio, Abruzzo, Tuscany, and South Korea are expected.
On Saturday, June 6, starting at 9:00 PM, the creation of the floral carpets begins, while the village comes alive with food stalls, an artisan market, and exhibitions. Sunday, June 7, the program includes the composition of the artworks along Via Leopardi from the early morning hours, the welcome of guest delegations, dance performances and flag-wavers, a vintage car exhibition on Via Trieste, and at 6:30 PM, the solemn Mass and the Corpus Domini procession along the carpets.
Montefiore dell'Aso can be reached by car from the A14 motorway, Pedaso exit, continuing inland along the Valdaso (about 15 km). The nearest train station is Pedaso, on the Adriatic line.
The Flower Festival takes place on the occasion of Corpus Domini, between Saturday and Sunday. The creation of the carpets takes place on the night/dawn of Sunday; the procession is held in the late afternoon.
Free admission. There are food stalls, an artisan market, and a camper area for those who wish to stay overnight. Information and updates on the social media channels of the Associazione Infiorata.
