The prose theatre festival at the Municipal Theatre of Aradeo, in the heart of Salento
In the historic centre of Aradeo, a small town in the province of Lecce in the heart of Salento, the Domenico Modugno Municipal Theatre on Via San Benedetto has been a vibrant cultural hub for years. Its annual Theatre Season, running from December to April, is the most anticipated winter event in Aradeo, attracting audiences from across central Salento. As Mayor Giovanni Mauro noted, the theatre "continues to be a home for art and dialogue, a heritage we guard with pride."
The festival is distinguished by a deliberately varied playbill, designed to appeal to diverse audiences. The stage hosts a rotation of brilliant comedy, contemporary drama, narrative concerts, adaptations of great literary classics, and even contemporary circus. It is a theatre that explores contemporary themes through mythology, literature, and singer-songwriter music, without sacrificing fun and laughter. Each season brings established national actors into dialogue with young local companies.
The Theatre Season is promoted by the Municipality of Aradeo in collaboration with Puglia Culture and the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, the regional circuit that supports the spread of live performance throughout Puglia. Thanks to this network, a small-scale theatre is able to host nationally significant productions, featuring names well-known to television and theatre audiences, while ensuring affordable prices and an inclusive policy featuring "suspended" tickets.
The season is typically structured around a subscription model for the main shows, with the option to purchase individual tickets for each evening. Advance sales are managed online via the LiveTicket circuit and at the theatre box office. The modest prices and subscription options make the festival a cultural experience accessible to families and younger audiences.
Located just a few kilometres from Galatina and within the triangle between Lecce, Gallipoli, and Nardรฒ, Aradeo is a stop that allows you to discover the authentic face of Salento, far from the large summer tourist crowds. Attending a show at the Domenico Modugno Theatre means experiencing Puglia in its most intimate and communal dimension, that of the villages that rediscover the theatre as a place of meeting and identity during the winter.
The festival at the Domenico Modugno Municipal Theatre in Aradeo featured ten events for the 2025/26 winter season, all starting at 9:00 PM (except for the afternoon closing). The program alternated big names of the Italian stage with local companies, confirming the multidisciplinary vocation of the season promoted by the Municipality of Aradeo with Puglia Culture and the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese.
Among the protagonists of this edition were Giobbe Covatta with "70", Raffaello Tullo in "Algoritmo: Lui e l'AI", Giorgio Sales with "Ammazzare i morti", and the Shakespearean reinterpretation of "Othello". The season opened and closed with two complimentary shows for subscribers: "Una moglie di troppo" and "The Barnard Loop".
