The historic flower fair of Monticelli d'Ongina featuring plants, local produce, and tradition
Di Sana Pianta is the name by which the May Fair of Monticelli d'Ongina, a small village in the Piacenza lowlands overlooking the Po River, in the province of Piacenza (Emilia-Romagna), is revived today. In 2026, the event will reach its 53rd edition, inheriting the legacy of the renowned "geranium fair" that for decades attracted visitors and gardening enthusiasts from all over the region.
While geraniums were once the absolute stars, today the fair embraces greenery in all its forms: flowers, plants of all kinds, fruits of the earth and their derivatives, with a particular focus on local producers and artisanal quality. The historic center of Monticelli transforms into an open-air market, where nurseries, selected exhibitors, and creatives liven up the town's streets for an entire weekend.
The program intertwines nature, well-being, and culture. Among the most popular offerings are creative workshops dedicated to the natural world – from the Japanese art of kokedama to activities for children to learn to identify butterflies – and moments of well-being such as the outdoor yoga class in the Municipal Park. There are also guided tours organized by the FAI group, exhibitions set up in the Rocca Pallavicino Casali, and the opening of local museums.
The gastronomic dimension is entrusted to the stands in Piazza Casali, where local associations offer traditional Piacenza dishes. The fair is also an occasion for solidarity: the Municipality, Pro Loco, and numerous local volunteer organizations such as AIDO, AVIS, FAI, and Civil Protection work side-by-side in organizing the event, animating the village with local raffles, solidarity markets, and charity initiatives.
With live music accompanying the evenings and the scent of flowers filling the squares, Di Sana Pianta is much more than a commercial fair: it is a community celebration that celebrates the rural identity and passion for gardening of an entire territory. Admission is free and the event is open to all, ideal for a spring outing filled with flowers, flavors, and culture in the Municipality of Monticelli d'Ongina.
The 2026 edition animated the historic center of Monticelli d'Ongina with flower stands from the Pro Loco, displays from nurseries, and a market of creative artists and agricultural producers.
Throughout the weekend, exhibitions at Rocca Pallavicino Casali, including "80 Years of Vespa," gastronomic stands in Piazza Casali, local raffles, and a solidarity market.
Monticelli d'Ongina is located in the Piacenza lowlands, near the Po River. By car, it can be reached from the A21 (Caorso or Piacenza Sud exit) and the SS10. The nearest train station is Piacenza, connected to the town by local bus lines.
The fair animates the historic center of the town, with the gastronomic hub in Piazza Casali and exhibitions in the Rocca Pallavicino Casali.
Admission to the fair is free. Some workshops may require booking: it is advisable to consult the official channels of the Municipality and the Pro Loco.
