The parade that opens the float season in the mainland
The Dese Carnival enlivens the homonymous district of the mainland of Venice and has a special role: it traditionally opens the season of allegorical float parades in the Metropolitan City of Venice, anticipating the events in Chirignago, Pellestrina, Lido, Marghera, Mestre, and Burano.
The procession is organized by the Youth of Dese of the Nativity of Mary Parish and starts from Via delle Garzette to reach the church square. The protagonists are the allegorical floats and dancing groups, with costumed figures parading amidst colors and music in an atmosphere of popular celebration.
There are also refreshment stands and typical Carnival sweets, frittelle (fritters) and galani (fried pastries), with entertainment and activities in the church square. The festival traditionally concludes with music and moments of conviviality.
Included in the calendar of the Carnival of Venice (VE), in Veneto, the Dese Carnival testifies to the link between Carnival traditions and the mainland districts of Venice, enlivened by the commitment of parishes and youth groups.
The 2026 edition of the Dese Carnival took place on Sunday, February 1st, inaugurating the season of allegorical float parades in the Metropolitan City of Venice. The procession, which started from Via delle Garzette, was enlivened by the Youth of Dese of the Nativity of Mary Parish.
