Edition 2025 — Days of Saint Benedict
The 2025 edition of the "Days of Saint Benedict" was marked by city-wide mourning for the untimely passing of the mayor of Subiaco, Domenico Petrini: many scheduled initiatives were canceled or scaled back, and the celebrations took place in a subdued tone, prioritizing religious moments.
The "Pro Pace et Europa Una" Benedictine Torch had been lit in Piazza San Benedetto in Norcia on February 23rd and blessed by Pope Francis during the audience on February 26th; on Sunday, March 9th, it arrived in Subiaco, welcomed by the local community. On March 18th, a relay team that departed from the Abbey of Montecassino brought the torch back on foot along the Way of Saint Benedict to Norcia, where it arrived on the evening of March 20th.
On Friday, March 21st, the day of the Saint's passing, the religious and civil Benedictine celebrations concluded simultaneously in the three Benedictine cities of Norcia, Subiaco, and Cassino, with a solemn mass in the Basilica of Sant'Andrea Apostolo and rites in honor of Saint Benedict, patron saint of Europe and religious patron of the city of monasteries, in the heart of the Aniene Valley, in Lazio.
