The festival of peasant tradition in Montignano di Senigallia
The Festa del Cuntadin is the spring event that, for more than forty years, has transformed Montignano, a hilly hamlet in the Municipality of Senigallia in the province of Ancona, into a grand tribute to the peasant civilization of the Marche region. Born in the mid-eighties on the initiative of the local community, the festival owes its name to the Marche dialect: cuntadin means peasant, the custodian of a world made of land, hard work, and conviviality that lives again here every year in mid-May.
The heart of the event is the traditional peasant gastronomy: every evening a different menu, served at the table in large covered areas, with typical dishes such as grilled suckling pig, polenta, grilled meats, and land and sea specialties. Everything else revolves around the table: the parade and blessing of vintage tractors and agricultural machinery, the craft and typical products market, photographic exhibitions dedicated to Montignano and its surroundings, and popular games that involve adults and children.
Each evening concludes with a different musical event: dance orchestras, tribute bands, DJ sets, and shows that liven up the 8 Marzo Gardens and Piazza Risorgimento. It is a festival designed for the whole family, where the recovery of rural memory coexists with fun, in a true village spirit.
Organized with passion by the Associazione Promotrice Montignanese, the Festa del Cuntadin has become over the years one of the most popular folk festivals in the Senigallia district and the Misa Valley, attracting visitors from all over the province of Ancona. More than just a simple festival, it is an opportunity to rediscover the peasant roots of the territory and come together around community values.
The 41st edition of the Festa del Cuntadin enlivened Montignano di Senigallia from May 14 to 17, 2026, confirming itself as one of the most popular folk festivals in the Misa Valley. Organized by the Associazione Promotrice Montignanese, it offered four days of peasant tradition, gastronomy, music, and games.
Among the year's novelties, Sunday hosted the 'Brocante' market, dedicated to vintage and antiques. Friday evening's bad weather did not stop the event: the organization set up two new covered areas in Piazza Risorgimento, allowing for dining and dancing under shelter. The Sunday lunch was a great success, filling the square with numbers comparable to Saturday evening.
Montignano is a hilly hamlet of Senigallia (AN), in the Marche region. By car, it can be reached from the Senigallia exit of the A14 motorway, continuing inland. The nearest train station is Senigallia, on the Adriatic line, from which you can continue by car or local transport.
Admission to the festival is free. The food stands generally open at 7:00 PM (7:30 PM on some evenings), with table service in a covered area. Sunday lunch is by reservation.
For Sunday lunch and on crowded evenings, reservations are recommended by contacting the organization. Card and debit card payments are accepted. In case of rain, activities continue in the covered areas set up in Piazza Risorgimento.
