In the heart of Fermo's historic center, within the halls of the Palazzo dei Priori, Cristina. Beyond the Crown unfolds, an immersive exhibition dedicated to one of the most fascinating and unconventional figures of the European 17th century: Christina of Sweden. Promoted by Maggioli Cultura and the Municipality of Fermo, in collaboration with the Romolo Spezioli Civic Library, the exhibition is not a classic display of paintings but a narrative journey that literally invites visitors into the story of a queen who chose to go beyond the crown.
An Immersive Journey in Seven Stages
The exhibition is developed through installations, narratives, and multimedia content that guide the public through the most significant moments of Christina's life. Seven thematic audio guides mark the story: childhood, identity formation, personal freedom, the famous abdication, exile and self-reinvention, life in Rome, and court dynamics. It is a journey into the mind of a learned and rebellious sovereign, a patron of the arts and a protector of free thought, who engaged with philosophers, scientists, and artists from all over Europe.
The Connection with Fermo and the Marche Region
The exhibition also highlights the relationship between Christina and the Fermo territory, intertwined with the figure of Cardinal Decio Azzolino, an influential churchman from the Marche region and the queen's confidant during her Roman years. Through Azzolino, Christina's court came into contact with professionals from the Fermo area, including the physicians Romolo and Giuseppe Spezioli, whose names are now associated with the city's historic civic library. A thread that anchors a European story in the heart of the Province of Fermo.
An Anniversary to Celebrate
The initiative is part of the celebrations for the anniversary of Christina of Sweden's birth and confirms Palazzo dei Priori's role as a leading exhibition center in the Marche region, following the major exhibitions that have animated Fermo's cultural season. The immersive proposal, designed to engage a young audience and families, makes this event one of the most interesting cultural stops in the spring of 2026 in the capital of the Marche region.

The immersive exhibition Cristina. Beyond the Crown is set up at the Palazzo dei Priori, in Piazza del Popolo in Fermo, from March 17 to May 3, 2026, with an inauguration on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 6:00 PM. The exhibition is promoted by Maggioli Cultura and the Municipality of Fermo, in collaboration with the Romolo Spezioli Civic Library, and curated by Lucia Mengoni, Maria Chiara Michetti, and Arianna Totò.
Visitors are guided through the fundamental stages of the Swedish queen's life, from childhood to her abdication and Roman years, with particular attention to her connection with the Fermo territory through Cardinal Decio Azzolino.

By car: A14 motorway exit Porto San Giorgio-Fermo, then about 10 km towards the center. By train: Porto San Giorgio-Fermo station on the Adriatic line, connected to the historic center by bus. Parking around the center with pedestrian access or elevators to Piazza del Popolo.
