A day of traditional games, folk dances, and rural culture
In San Giorgio su Legnano, a municipality in the Alto Milanese area of the province of Milan, the Countryside Festival is a day dedicated to remembering the rural world and peasant traditions. Between Largo Falcone e Borsellino and Via Don Sturzo, from 10 in the morning until 6 in the evening, the town transforms into a large outdoor celebration space, designed to engage all generations.
The heart of the festival lies in the traditional games: tug-of-war, sack races, and other pastimes of yesteryear, which bring smiles to both young and old. In the afternoon, there are folk dances, with the Nuovafardanza association, while the mechanical bull provides moments of fun for families. The day concludes with a live concert by the band Babylonia.
The festival also has a cultural and educational dimension. The exhibition of old agricultural tools, curated by the Cartabbia Museum, tells the story of farm work in the past, while the reading initiative «Leggiamo a San Giorgio» distributes free books and offers activities for younger audiences. Information stands and craft workshops complete a program that intertwines memory, community, and intergenerational participation.
There is also a food area, with specialties and festive sweets like cotton candy, alongside craft and commercial stalls. Organized by the Pro Loco of San Giorgio su Legnano, with municipal patronage, the Countryside Festival has free admission and is open to all: a simple and genuine day to rediscover, through games and traditions, the rural soul of this corner of the Alto Milanese.
