The village Carnival of Cossogno

The Cossogno Carnival is the local festival of the small village of Cossogno, a municipality of about 650 inhabitants nestled at the gateway to the Val Grande National Park, in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in the heart of north-eastern Piedmont. It is an intimate and familiar tradition, deeply rooted in the life of the community, which every year brings together residents, children, and visitors in an atmosphere of joy and conviviality.

When and where

The 2026 edition is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, with the gathering at 12:00 pm at the Circolo Operaio, a historic meeting point and the beating heart of Cossogno's social life. The Circolo, which has always been a place for locals to meet, hosts the party with the warmth typical of mountain initiatives, where the community dimension matters more than spectacle.

An authentic Carnival

Unlike the large historical Piedmontese carnivals, the Cossogno Carnival retains all the spontaneity of a village festival: masks, confetti, colorful costumes, and moments of sharing around the table. Cossogno and Val Grande

Cossogno is known as one of the main gateways to the Val Grande National Park, the largest wilderness area in Italy. The municipal territory includes the hamlets of Cicogna, defined as the "small capital of the Park," and Ungiasca, overlooking the Verbano area and Lake Maggiore. The village preserves treasures such as the Roman Bridge from 1773, the Oratory of Inoca, and the site of the first long-distance hydroelectric power plant in Italy (1892). Participating in the Cossogno Carnival also means discovering an authentic and lesser-known corner of Piedmont.
