The widespread festival in the historic center of Martano, in the Grecìa Salentina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Grecìa Salentina, in the province of Lecce, the village of Martano dedicates several evenings in July to one of the most beloved events in Salento: Cortili Aperti. Promoted by the Municipality of Martano with the patronage of the Province of Lecce, the festival turns the entire historic center into an open-air museum, where private courtyards, noble palaces, cloisters, and churches exceptionally open their doors to the public.
The route winds through alleys, small squares, and courtyards decorated by the citizens themselves: from the Palazzo Ducale with its cloister and gardens, to Piazzetta Matteotti, Santa Croce, and Nilde Iotti, all the way to the Mother Church and the Church of the Immaculate. Every corner becomes a small stage featuring concerts, theatrical performances, aerial dance, sand art, traditional games, and tastings of typical Salento products.
The hallmark of the event is its variety: ranging from jazz to Salento folk music, from rock to tribute acts, and from comedy theater to art installations. Many events highlight the Griko culture of Martano, one of the towns where Griko, an ancient language of Greek origin, is still spoken. There is no shortage of immersive experiences for younger visitors and food and wine offerings that showcase the flavors of the territory.
Cortili Aperti is a participatory, free-entry festival born from the collaboration between the municipal administration, associations, parishes, and citizens. Each edition revolves around a theme that guides the installations and artistic offerings: in 2025, the central theme was "Mia forà iche'..." ("Once upon a time..."), a journey into the memory, traditions, and identity of the town. The event is now a staple of the Salento summer, capable of attracting visitors from all over the province of Lecce and beyond.
The official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers: it is recommended to follow the Municipality of Martano's channels for updates.
