Corpus Domini Procession and Vascelluzzo Pageant

On the day of Corpus Domini 2025, Messina celebrated the solemn Eucharistic procession followed by the Vascelluzzo Pageant. The precious silver simulacrum, a work of ancient Messinese goldsmithing and covered in wheat stalks in memory of the city's ancient rescues from famine, was carried in procession by the members of the Confraternity of Santa Maria di Portosalvo dei Marinai.

The parade crossed the historic city center, attracting numerous faithful and visitors. As per tradition, the event commemorated the legend of the grain-laden ships that miraculously arrived in port, with the distribution of small loaves and wheat sheaves to those present.
