Commemoration of the Quadraro Roundup

81st Anniversary — April 17, 2025

In 2025, the commemoration of Operation Whale saw the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri and the main representatives of the city administration pay homage to the victims of the roundup at two distinct sites: via dei Quintili 1, in the V Municipality, and the Parco 17 aprile 1944, in the VII Municipality.

The morning ceremonies were accompanied, as every year, by moments of popular participation in the neighborhood: readings, testimonies, and initiatives promoted by the ANPI and Quadraro associations, with the involvement of students from local schools. At the center of the remembrance were the men detained at dawn on April 17, 1944, and deported to Germany, many of whom never returned.
