International independent cinema within the walled city
The Cittadella International Film Festival (CIFF) is a young international independent cinema review that transforms the historic center of Cittadella (province of Padua) into a large, spread-out film set. Conceived and promoted by Revolux Studios and supported by the Municipality, the festival was officially presented at the Venice Film Festival and was born with the ambition of opening the walled city to cultural dialogue with authors, producers, and audiences from around the world.
The festival utilizes the most evocative locations in the city founded in 1220 and famous for its perfectly preserved medieval walls: screenings are held at the Torre di Malta, the film exhibition in the Chiesa del Torresino, work presentations at the Biblioteca di Villa Rina and Palazzo Pretorio, while the Teatro Sociale hosts the red carpet and awards ceremony. Piazza Pierobon serves as the info point and media point.
The main award is the Torre di Malta Award for best film, accompanied by awards for best series and best short film. The festival also presents special awards to performers and hosts talks and thematic meetings, including sessions dedicated to virtual reality and new cinema technologies.
With this event, Cittadella joins the circuit of film festivals in the Veneto region, combining international screenings, exhibitions, and convivial moments in one of Italy's most beautiful fortified villages.
The first edition of the CIFF, from May 8 to 10, 2026, brought three days of international independent cinema screenings, exhibitions, work presentations, and talks to Cittadella. The Torre di Malta Award for best film was presented to "Walk along the Borne" by Nick Igea, with awards for best series and best short film. Among the special recognitions, the Rai Special Award went to actor Nando Irene.
