The masked spring festival in the heart of San Carlo, Terre del Reno
In Piazza A. Pola in San Carlo, a hamlet of the Municipality of Terre del Reno in the province of Ferrara, the Children's Carnival has become a fixture of the spring calendar over the years. As part of the broader Spring Festival, the event transforms the town center into an explosion of colors, music, and costumes: an afternoon designed for families, children, and people of all ages.
The highlight is the grand costume parade that winds through the square, accompanied by music and entertainment. During the procession, a jury judges participants for the 'Most Beautiful Mask' contest, open to individuals and groups of all ages. There are multiple categories: children (0-7 years), youths (8-14 years), adults (15 years and up), as well as couples, groups, and families. Costumes can be imaginative, imitative, or humorous, while respecting decorum; the jury favors handmade outfits and rewards originality, makeup, and overall scenic effect. Numerous prizes are up for grabs for the winners in each category.
In addition to the parade, the afternoon is enlivened by creative workshops, dancing, games, and entertainment designed especially for the little ones. The gastronomic refreshment point remains open until the evening, allowing the celebration to continue together even after the awards ceremony. The event is organized by Pro Loco San Carlo APS with the patronage of the Municipality of Terre del Reno and the collaboration of various local associations.
