The satirical carnival of floats of Monteforte d'Alpone
In Monteforte d'Alpone, in the province of Verona, carnival is a serious matter. The Carnevalon de l'Alpon, officially established in 1949 but with roots stretching back to the late 19th century, is famous for its satirical and irreverent spirit: the allegorical floats, crafted by local papier-mâché masters, ridicule current events and personalities, in a tradition that is renewed each year.
The event is marked by traditions that have become rituals: the Vènardi Gnocolàro, with the preparation and distribution of the typical "Montefortian" gnocchi, and the Luni Pignatàro, an evening of cabaret at the Sports Hall. The highlight is the grand parade of allegorical floats and masked groups, which winds through the historic centre amidst music, colours, and food stalls offering gnocchi, fritters, and the local Soave wine.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Monteforte d'Alpone, the Carnevalon transforms the town into a gathering point for thousands of people from all over the region. It is much more than a parade: it is the expression of a community's identity, which, in the heart of the Soave region, makes satire and conviviality its distinctive mark.
The 2026 edition, the seventy-sixth, enlivens Monteforte d'Alpone from February 12 to 17. The week of festivities culminates on Tuesday, February 17, with the grand historical parade of allegorical floats in the historic centre, while the night parade has been scheduled for recovery on Saturday, February 21. For the first time in the history of the Carnevalon, the people of Monteforte have elected a woman as Queen of the Torbolin. Organized by the Pro Loco of Monteforte d'Alpone.
