About Caravaggio Carnival

When Carnival arrives, Caravaggio fills with colors, music, and masks. The traditional parade of allegorical floats starts from Piazzale Morettini and crosses the streets of the center, offering an afternoon (and an evening) of pure celebration. Organized by the Pro Caravaggio Association with the patronage of the City of Caravaggio, it is one of the most beloved events for families in the Bassa bergamasca: handmade floats, masked groups, typical Carnival sweets, and inflatables for the little ones. A perfect opportunity to enjoy a carefree day together, with fritters, chiacchiere (fried dough pastries), and lots of fun.

Carnival in Caravaggio

In the heart of the Bassa bergamasca, the Municipality of Caravaggio (Province of Bergamo) celebrates Carnival with a parade of allegorical floats that attracts families and curious visitors from all over the surrounding area each year. The event is organized by the Pro Caravaggio Association, with the patronage and contribution of the City of Caravaggio, and represents one of the most cherished moments of the city's winter calendar.

Floats and Masks

The absolute protagonists are the allegorical floats, carefully built in the preceding months, accompanied by masked groups that liven up the procession with music and choreography. The parade starts from Piazzale Morettini, along Via Francesco d'Assisi, and winds through the town's streets, transforming them into a river of confetti and streamers.

Sweets and Fun for Everyone

During the day, there are no shortage of typical Carnival traditional sweets: fritters and chiacchiere are distributed in Largo Cavenaghi and Piazza Garibaldi, while inflatables and attractions for children are set up in Piazza Garibaldi. It is a deeply popular, free, and open-to-all celebration that focuses on the desire to be together.

A Tradition of the Bassa bergamasca

The Caravaggio Carnival is part of Lombardy's rich Carnival tradition, where each town cherishes its own customs. Here, the atmosphere is that of a genuine provincial festival: masked children, local associations collaborating for the event's success, and the entire community gathering in the streets to greet winter with joy.
