Edition 2025 โ Byzantine New Year
An edition with the founder on the Magister's throne
The 2025 edition of the Byzantine New Year had a special value: the title of Magister of Amalfitan Civilization went to Giuseppe Gargano, the medievalist historian whose work led to the birth of the event itself in 1999. The ceremony took place on September 1 in the church of San Salvatore de' Birecto in Atrani, in the presence of the Archbishop, after the historical pageant departed from Amalfi.
The three days
On August 31, at Largo Duca Piccolomini, the study roundtable and the public interview with the Magister opened the celebrations, followed in Piazza Duomo by the free concert of Mario Biondi. On September 1, the Sbandieratori e Musici Cittร Regia departed from the Valle dei Mulini and the procession with over a hundred participants reached Atrani; in the evening, the presentation of the new Magister on the steps of the Cathedral and the performance of the Pistonieri di Santa Maria del Rovo in Piazza Municipio. On September 2, a medieval event for families, with falconry demonstrations, closed the festival in the Municipality of Amalfi.
