The patronal feast of San Benedetto in the village of Latina, featuring live music, food stalls, and two weekends of community spirit.
Borgo Piave Festival is the patronal feast of San Benedetto, celebrated every July in the village of Borgo Piave, just a few kilometers from the center of Latina, in the Lazio region. Organized by the San Benedetto Parish with the volunteer work of dozens of parishioners, it is one of those festivals that truly captures the identity of the Pontine reclamation villages: born around the bell tower, grown with the families who settled here in the 1930s, and now the neighborhood's most anticipated summer event.
The formula is tried and tested: it starts in the late afternoon, you dine under the gazebos of the food stalls, then head to the stage for live music and dancing, while children have an area all to themselves. Admission is free, and the turnout fills the streets until late at night.
For several years, the festival has spanned two consecutive weekends, totaling eight to ten evenings depending on the edition. The main stage hosts dance orchestras and pop/liscio bands โ recent editions have featured groups like I Domino, Nero 01, Supersonic Band, Le Meteore, and the Orchestra Mozzato โ while the Piave Arena, a parallel space dedicated to young people, offers more informal formats: the Borgo Piave's Got Talent show, the Battle of the Bands, role-playing game nights, and demonstrations by local sports associations.
The food stalls are one of the reasons the festival is known well beyond the village boundaries. Each evening features a dish of the day that changes daily: orecchiette with broccoli rabe, pasta alla norma, fettuccine alla boscaiola, mezze maniche all'amatriciana or gricia, gnocchi with meat sauce, or pappardelle with wild boar. Alongside the pasta dishes, there is no shortage of grilled meats, fried foods, desserts, and draft beer, with growing attention to gluten-free alternatives for those with intolerances. Prices remain the popular ones typical of village festivals, and the service is entirely managed by parish volunteers.
Beyond the entertainment program, the heart of the event remains the devotion to San Benedetto da Norcia, the patron saint of the parish. The final day is dedicated to the liturgical dimension: solemn mass in the church of San Benedetto and, in the evening, a procession with the statue of the saint through the village streets, accompanied by the band and the faithful. In some editions, the celebration has been presided over by the bishop of the Diocese of Latina-Terracina-Sezze-Priverno. It is the moment when the festival shows its deepest nature: a community ritual passed down from generation to generation.
Those visiting the province of Latina in July will find a rare opportunity to see the less touristy and more authentic side of Lazio: no big-event stages, but a festival built from the ground up, where you eat well, dance in the square, and chat with the locals. It is also a great starting point for discovering the other reclamation villages โ Borgo Sabotino, Borgo Grappa, Borgo Montello โ and the nearby beaches of the Pontine coast, just a twenty-minute drive away.
In 2026, the patronal feast of the Borgo Piave hamlet in Latina spanned two consecutive weekends in July: from the 2nd to the 5th and from the 9th to the 12th. An edition built, as always, by the volunteers of the San Benedetto Parish, with the main stage dedicated to live music and dancing, and the Piave Arena reserved for more youth-oriented formats.
Among the most popular moments were the Borgo Piave's Got Talent show on Saturday, July 4th at the Piave Arena, and the second weekend featuring the Orchestra Mozzato on the main stage on Saturday, July 11th, coinciding with the Battle of the Bands at the arena. On the gastronomic front, a different dish of the day was served each evening โ from orecchiette with broccoli rabe to pasta alla norma โ with gluten-free options available for those with intolerances.
The event concluded on Sunday, July 12th with religious celebrations in honor of the patron saint, San Benedetto.
Throughout the eight evenings, groups and orchestras such as I Domino, Nero 01, Supersonic Band, Le Meteore, and I Mozzato performed on stage, alongside exhibitions by local karate and dance schools. The vintage Vespa rally was also confirmed.
