The international auteur cinema festival of Bergamo
The Bergamo Film Meeting is one of the longest-running and most appreciated film festivals in Italy. Founded in 1983, every March it fills the cinemas of the Orobic capital with a selection of around 170 titles including feature films, documentaries, short films, and archive films, almost always in their national premiere. It's not a festival of red carpets and stars: it's a festival for those who love cinema as a language, research, and memory.
The heart of the event are the two competitions: the Official Competition, dedicated to feature fiction films, and Visti da Vicino (Seen Up Close), reserved for documentaries. Alongside these are historical and in-depth sections:
Screenings take place in various cinemas in Bergamo, animating the city's cultural fabric for nine days. The film program is complemented by masterclasses, meetings with directors, screenings with live musical accompaniment, and the Film Industry Meetings, two professional days dedicated to the themes of distribution and innovation in the audiovisual sector.
Organized by Bergamo Film Meeting Onlus, the festival is now a fixed event on the cultural calendar of Bergamo and Lombardy, attracting audiences and industry professionals from all over Europe. Its focus on accessibility and inclusion, with initiatives designed for audiences with specific needs, makes it an event open to all.
The 44th edition of the Bergamo Film Meeting runs from March 7 to 15, 2026, in Bergamo's cinemas, presenting over 170 titles including shorts and features, largely in national premiere.
The 2026 edition is marked by major tributes and retrospectives spanning the history of European and world auteur cinema.
The Film Industry Meetings take place on March 11 and 12, two days for professionals dedicated to distribution strategies and new opportunities in immersive cinema.
Screenings are held in various cinemas in Bergamo. The festival office is located at Via Ghislanzoni 37.
Bergamo is served by Orio al Serio airport, the train station (lines from Milan and Brescia), and the A4 motorway. The cinemas are reachable on foot or by ATB urban public transport.
