Medieval re-enactment at Bardi Castle, between Easter and Easter Monday
Every year, for the Easter and Easter Monday holidays, the Bardi Castle becomes the stage for Bardi Storica: Great Medieval Joust, one of the most evocative historical re-enactments in Emilia-Romagna. The event takes place in the Municipality of Bardi, in the province of Parma, and transforms the imposing fortress and the entire village into an authentic medieval village populated by knights, ladies, soldiers, artisans, and musicians in costume.
The setting is one of the most picturesque fortresses in the area: Bardi Castle, also known as the Landi Castle, has stood for over a thousand years on a spectacular outcrop of red jasper, at the confluence of the Ceno and Noveglia streams. Originally a defensive bulwark as early as the 9th-10th century, in 1257 it passed to the powerful Landi family, who over the centuries transformed it from a military structure into an elegant princely residence, equipping it with noble apartments, armories, and reception rooms. Walking today through its ramparts and courtyards during the re-enactment means reliving that atmosphere with encampments, art stalls, and historical demonstrations.
For two days, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the public is welcomed by a packed program of activities that allow visitors to experience medieval life firsthand:
The heart of the event is the Great Joust, the tournament that sees knights compete in the princes' courtyard with shields, armor, and sword strikes. On Easter Monday, there is also an unmissable historical pageant that winds through the village streets with flag-throwers and musicians, and costumed figures on foot and horseback, restoring the village of Bardi to the splendor of its golden age.
Bardi Storica is an event designed for the whole family: children can participate in workshops and try archery, while history enthusiasts will find an opportunity for deeper understanding in the reconstructions and combats. An experience that combines the rediscovery of the historical heritage of the Parma Apennines with the magic of medieval traditions, in one of the most fascinating locations in the Valceno.
For the Easter long weekend, Bardi Castle hosted the Great Medieval Joust on April 5th and 6th, 2026. On both days, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the fortress and the village came alive with encampments, art stalls, and historical demonstrations.
In the afternoon, around 4:00 PM, the princes' courtyard hosted the Great Joust, with knights competing in tournaments amidst shields and armor. Easter Monday was enhanced by the historical pageant through the village streets, with flag-throwers, musicians, and costumed figures on foot and horseback. Admission 10 euros, free for children aged 0 to 4.
Bardi is located in the Parma Apennines, about 60 km from Parma. By car, it can be reached from the SP28 along the Val Ceno; from the A15 motorway (Fornovo exit) or the A21. The nearest train station is Borgo Val di Taro or Fidenza, from which you can continue by car or public bus.
Single admission of 10 euros for adults and children; free for children aged 0 to 4. Some workshops require a small additional fee, and booking is recommended.
The event runs from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on both days. For information and bookings: tel. +39 380 1088315 (also WhatsApp) or 0525 733021, email [email protected], website www.castellodibardi.info.
