The summer solstice dawn concert at the Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano in Jesi
The Aurora Concert is one of the most poetic events in the cultural calendar of Jesi, in the Province of Ancona, in the Marche region. Every year, at dawn on June 21st – the day of the summer solstice and International Music Day – the Regina della Pace Choir, conducted by Maestro Diego Pucci, gathers in the Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano to welcome the first light of day with a program of choral music.
The choice of location is no coincidence. The Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano, one of the oldest churches in the Jesi area, offers an unrepeatable atmosphere at six in the morning: the special light that filters through the stained glass windows at that time of day envelops the building and accompanies the choir's voices. It is a suspended moment, where the audience is invited to set aside their thoughts and elevate their spirits, just as the music does.
The Aurora Concert program is crafted each year as a journey through different eras, styles, and composers. In recent editions, the choir has performed pieces ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach to Igor Stravinsky, including contemporary choral music by Vytautas Miskinis and the Jesi-born Gaspare Spontini, demonstrating how the universal language of music allows for the meeting of distant cultures and contexts.
The protagonist of the event is the Regina della Pace Choir of Jesi, a polyphonic ensemble conducted by Maestro Diego Pucci, active throughout the year with a schedule of events related to sacred and choral music. The dawn concert is its best-known and most anticipated summer offering, drawing a loyal audience each year willing to wake up before dawn just to experience it.
The Aurora Concert has free admission and is part of the celebrations for the Fête de la Musique, which involves all of Italy on June 21st. In Jesi, it represents the symbolic start of the summer season, an intimate and contemplative moment that precedes the city's major festivals and continues to distinguish itself for its spiritual and contemplative dimension.
The XVI edition of the Aurora Concert is scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026, starting at 06:00 AM, in the Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano in Jesi. For 2026, the protagonist will again be the Regina della Pace Choir, conducted by Maestro Diego Pucci, on the day of the summer solstice and International Music Day.
The detailed musical program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event. Following the pattern of past editions, a choral repertoire spanning different centuries and genres is expected. Admission is free.
