About Arrosticino Lake Festival

On the shores of Lake Albano in Castel Gandolfo, the Arrosticino Lake Festival brings the authentic flavours of Abruzzo to the heart of the Castelli Romani. Charcoal-grilled arrosticini prepared on traditional channels, Ariccia porchetta, local Castelli wines, and craft beers accompany free live music evenings by the water. Launched in 2024, this convivial summer event blends Abruzzese culinary tradition with the seaside atmosphere of the Lazio region.

The Arrosticino Lake Festival

The Arrosticino Lake Festival is one of the youngest and most vibrant food and wine festivals in the Castelli Romani area. Since its debut in 2024, it has quickly become a staple of the summer season in Castel Gandolfo, in the province of Rome. The undisputed star is the arrosticino, the iconic sheep meat skewer that symbolises Abruzzese cuisine, grilled to perfection and served piping hot right by the lake.

Location: Lake Albano in Castel Gandolfo

The setting is the picturesque Lake Albano beach, a volcanic basin nestled among the Castelli Romani villages, just a stone's throw from the historic centre of Castel Gandolfo and the Papal Palace. The festival area is an open-air space along the lakefront, featuring plenty of room for food stalls, live music, and socialising. It is easily accessible and designed for families, groups of friends, and tourists looking for a summer evening filled with great food.

The Menu: Arrosticini, Porchetta, and Craft Beer

Gastronomy is the heart of the event. The arrosticini are prepared by professional Abruzzese grill masters, cooked over the traditional long brazier known as a canale. Alongside the skewers, the stalls offer other local specialities:

  • Ariccia porchetta, the PGI-certified excellence of the Castelli Romani;
  • Castelli Romani wines, ranging from crisp whites to local reds;
  • Craft beer from producers in the Lazio and Rome area;
  • Traditional local products and classic popular dishes.

Live Music Under the Stars

Every evening, the festival features free live music, with tribute bands, DJ sets, and artists enlivening the lakefront until late. The programme ranges from covers of Italian music legends to themed nights, creating a festive, convivial atmosphere perfect for enjoying your arrosticini.

A Bridge Between Abruzzo and Lazio

The festival was born as a true meeting point between two neighbouring regions: Abruzzo, with its pastoral traditions and home of the arrosticino, and the Lazio of the Castelli Romani, with its rich culinary culture and lakeside landscapes. It is a pairing that celebrates Italyโ€™s genuine flavours and warm hospitality.

A Free Event for Everyone

Entry to the festival area is completely free: you only pay for what you eat and drink. Organised by the L'Abruzzo incontra Roma association with the support of local merchants and the patronage of the Municipality of Castel Gandolfo, this event is one of the most beloved ways to experience summer on Lake Albano.
