Edition 2025 — Arbëreshë Easter Mezzojuso

In 2025, the Arbëreshë Easter of Mezzojuso took place from Palm Sunday (April 13) to Easter Sunday (April 20). The Italo-Albanian community renewed the Latin and Greek-Byzantine rites: the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows on Holy Thursday, the exit of the Urn with the dead Christ on Good Friday, and the distribution of red eggs on Easter Day, confirming a tradition alive for over five centuries.

The 2025 edition of the Holy Week of Mezzojuso followed the usual itinerary of faith and Arbëreshë identity, from Palm Sunday on April 13th to Easter on April 20th. In 2025, the two rites that characterize the village in the Sicani Mountains were once again intertwined: the Latin rite, with the Holy Thursday procession of Our Lady of Sorrows organized by the confraternities, and the Greek-Byzantine rite of the Mother Church of San Nicolò di Mira, with the solemn procession of the Urn of the dead Christ on Good Friday. The night of Easter resonated with the chant «Cristòs Anésti» and on Sunday, the distribution of red eggs, a symbol of Resurrection, was repeated, sealing one of the most evocative Easter celebrations in Sicily.
